Water is poisonous.

Many of today’s water systems are contaminated with toxic substances like asbestos, arsenic, lead, radioactive particles, microplastics, and pesticides. These pollutants impact agricultural irrigation, leading to contaminated crops and various health issues, including poisoning, cognitive and physical complications, and terminal diseases such as cancer.

Water pollution damages aquatic ecosystems, resulting in biodiversity loss and the collapse of livelihoods dependent on these ecosystems. Clean water is scarce; over 2 billion people (1 in 4 people around the world) lack safely managed, clean drinking water.

Aka H 2 O is inspired by the film movement of thought-provoking Surrealism and the Land Art current. Between performance and psycho-magic ceremony, Aka’s action-dance, held in 2019 in the Valley of the Winds in Irpinia (Italy), evokes a feeling of hope towards the future. Aka H 2 O reflects and encourages one to question life and the sustainability of one’s actions. In the video, water and matter are staged. Tied by an invisible thread they float suspended between air and earth; the hand of man activates their movement while Aka H 2 O becomes the spokeswoman for a deep and visionary message.” –  Valeria Del Vacchio, Italy/UK

Despite the damage, destruction, and health challenges that water can cause, water remains the essence of life.

Protecting Earth’s hydrosphere—from underground reserves to oceans—preserving and improving water resource management, increasing water reuse, and fostering cross-border cooperation are vital for the well-being of current and future generations.
